Miscellaneous Laventille move to top of NFA table

Miscellaneous Laventille United are on a hot streak in the Northern Premier Division and are looking to maintain their winning ways during the current season.

So far they have won two out of two FA Cup matches and three out of  four in the League. They jumped to the top of the eight-team table with a 5-1 thrashing of Paramin. Scholars United.. Kareem Charles, Kester Hewitt, Nyron Boney, Clint Raymond and Elcon McConney were the scorers for Laventille United to push them to nine points, one ahead of second placed Cantaro FC.

Among their league wins last month was a 6-1 thrashing of RSSR with Kareem Charles and Kevin McNeil both netting a pair and Kester Hewitt and Elon McConney grabbing an item each. Charles also netted a double along with Clint Raymond in a 4-1 victory over Belmont FC on Friday at their home venue in Sogren Trace, Laventille. One of Laventille’s FA Cup wins included a 3-1 victory over Trendsetter Hawks

“This season we have been progressing quite well with just the one loss to Cantaro and a few strong performances including the 6-0 win over RSSR and the 3-1 win over Trendsetter Hawks which are traditionally two of the top teams in the North zone,” said Laventille United’s head coach Cedric Hazelwood.

“Football is the way out for all of our players who are representing the area of Laventille and surrounding communities with pride and honour. Every time these guys put on the Laventille shirt it gives them a sense of purpose and drive and this is what we are about right now. We have had two positive seasons in the past but this time we really want to go all the way and finish in the top two for a chance to progress to the national Super League,” he added. “The NFA has also done its part to ensure that the league is properly structured and run so far this season.

“Our club owner and supporter Sham Mohammed of the Miscellaneous Group has been offering whatever backing is necessary this season and having him place his support behind Laventille is a major boost for the club. His efforts have helped us tremendously and is a good example of what partners or other corporate citizens can do to help communities like Laventille through football and sport,” Hazelwood said.

Laventille United’s next league encounter is against St Francois Nationals on Friday at Sogren Trace.
